Johan Janse van Rensburg was the first chairman of the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce which was founded in 2011, as an independent, non-political, subscription-based association dedicated to establishing the facilitation of a network of businesses, the mobilising of knowledge and the promotion of relationships between businesses and the community to create economic prosperity for all in our community and area. 

The different goals of the Chamber include but are not limited to bringing the business community of Potchefstroom together and to promote them by creating different opportunities to learn more about the business industry. We also aim and pledge to give our members practical help and advice to protect them against any unfair regulations that they may come across. To inform and assist our members in any way with new business policies regulations that might affect them, by this means we hope to create a healthy business community in Potchefstroom that is eager to help and support each other. By this, we also hope to promote Potchefstroom and the JB Marks area’s reputation and image to make it more accessible and comfortable to live and raise families in. Therefore, we will always get involved and help other institutions and organisations in their quest to promote our town and help its people. 

Our members are drawn from every sector of the economy, and range from independent entrepreneurs to the large corporate. We are also focused on helping anyone in our community, regardless of their race, gender or religion they may be. We communicate all these services and opportunities via a newsletter to our members.
