In collaboration with prominent business leaders and Mooirivier Beskerming, the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce has identified a rise in crime in our city centre, negatively impacting local businesses. In response, we have taken action by launching the BID project.
Our primary goal with this initiative is to reduce crime by implementing dedicated monitoring, including 24/7 CCTV surveillance and rapid response.
The Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Hoër Volkskool Potchefstroom and Potchefstroom Gimnasium, has decided to take the annual Derby between these schools to a new level.
Like the two competing schools, Oak Avenue is part of the city’s history. The aim is to decorate 200 trees along the avenue with the colours of the schools.
Each school and the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce will ask the community to sponsor a tree for R500.
The funds raised will benefit both schools and the Oack Avenue Commity, which oversees the well-being of the trees.
As the Potchefstroom Chamber Of Commerce, we believe every business, organisation and individual can make a difference in our beautiful city.
Join us in our twice annual #ProPotch Clean-up & Recycle week and pledge to help us fill 3000 bags of litter. Join us from 12-16 May and 29 Sep – 3 Oct 2025 to make our city beautiful.
The Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, J.B. Marks Local Municipality, and the ALS Group South Africa launched the #ProPotch Pothole Project for those tired of potholes and wanted to improve Potchefstroom’s infrastructure. The goal was to make the city’s main routes pothole-free within 100 working days.
The project required approximately R1 million, with the cost of repairing a one-square-meter pothole estimated at R500.
The project officially launched on 23 March 2024, and by the end of the second working week, 220 potholes had already been repaired, and R200,000 had been raised.
The #ProPotch Pothole Project was a great success, made possible by the support of our businesses and community.
The Disaster Relief Food Project, led by the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, distributed 500,000 meals over two weeks, averaging 50,000 per day to vulnerable families.
Key partnerships with the Potch-Tlokwe Chamber of Commerce, JB Marks Municipality, Department of Social Development, NWU, Nestlé South Africa, and Potchefstroom Church Leaders (PCL) made this success possible.
Volunteers and donors were instrumental in ensuring smooth food distribution and data collection for needy families.
The Second Life Goods Store opened on 1 April in Gerrit Worstsaal with support from the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, local churches, and businesses. Its mission is to offer quality clothing and goods to the community at affordable prices.
The slogan “wear, share, and care” encourages the community to visit, donate, and help others in need.
A cleaner, more beautiful community benefits everyone, and with the Trolley Project, we’re making that vision a reality! This initiative has already seen great success, helping to keep our city tidy while providing businesses with valuable exposure.
By sponsoring a trolley for just R300 per month, your business logo will be displayed, showing your commitment to a cleaner, more vibrant Potchefstroom. It’s a simple yet powerful way to give back while gaining visibility in the community.
Be part of the change, join the Trolley Project today, and let’s keep Potchefstroom beautiful together!
As community members, we took action to ensure a safer Potchefstroom in response to rising criminal incidents. The community and students voiced the need for a safer Bult, the heart of our city.
In collaboration with the local Police Station, CID, North-West University, and local businesses, the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce developed a crime-fighting strategy and established a Community Police Station in the area. We also raised funds to cover the expenses of the CID office, turning our vision into reality.
